John has been studying & making pottery since 1969. He studied with Al Johnsen at UC Santa Cruz & Big Creek Pottery. In 1974 he moved to Gerlach to set up Planet X Pottery. Rachel (a Veterinarian in a previous life) completes the team. Planet X started with just the remnants of an old homestead on the Emigrant Trail. Over the years studios & galleries have been built & a beautiful oasis created. Being totally off the grid (8 miles from the closest power) Planet X is run entirely off of solar, propane & generator. Once a blank spot on the map, Planet X has become a destination for Nevadans out exploring the desert & for tourists from all over the world. Stop by to see the display of fine porcelain, stoneware & Raku, have lunch under the ancient cottonwoods & enjoy the quiet solitude of one of the last unspoiled areas in the West. We are open most of the time. We also have a big Open House Show & Sale on Memorial Day weekend & a Bargain Sale on Thanksgiving weekend both at Planet X in Gerlach  as well as a December Show the first weekend of December in Reno.
