Bio

John has been studying & making pottery since 1969. He studied with Al Johnsen at UC Santa Cruz & Big Creek Pottery. In 1974 he moved to Gerlach to set up Planet X Pottery. Rachel (a Veterinarian in a previous life) completes the team. Planet X started with just the remnants of an old homestead on the Emigrant Trail. Over the years studios & galleries have been built & a beautiful oasis created. Being totally off the grid (8 miles from the closest power) Planet X is run entirely from solar, propane & generator. Once a blank spot on the map, Planet X has become a destination for Nevadans out exploring the desert & for tourists from all over the world. Stop by to see the display of fine porcelain, stoneware & landscape paintings, have lunch under the ancient cottonwoods & enjoy the quiet solitude of one of the last unspoiled areas in the West. We are open most of the time. This year, 2020, we will be having an Open House/ Show on  Oct 10th & 11th .& a Bargain & Seconds Sale on Thanksgiving weekend (Nov 27, 28 & 29) both at Planet X in Gerlach.
